Wetlands - 10k

Data Identification
Abstract: CryoGeographic Consulting, in association with Palmer Environmental Consulting Group Inc., provided Yukon Energy, Mines and Resources and Yukon Environment with the results of the mapping and classification of wetlands and adjacent upland habitat in the Indian River valley and its major tributaries. This report and its accompanying map set have been updated to reflect study area expansion and additional field reconnaissance completed in the summer of 2017. Interpretation of shallow water wetlands within disturbed landscapes was completed by Ducks Unlimited Canada and incorporated.Five classes of wetlands are distinguished – bogs, fens, swamps, marshes and shallow water – based on field investigations and interpretation of high-resolution aerial photography and satellite imagery. The accompanying report with full metadata can be downloaded from: http://www.emr.gov.yk.ca/mining/pdf/indian-river-wetlands-mapping-21jan2018.pdfThe subsequent accompanying maps can be downloaded from: http://www.emr.gov.yk.ca/mining/pdf/indian-river-wetlands-mapset-21jan-2018.pdf

Constraints: The wetland mapping reflects the best interpretation of the available data relative to specific instances in time. The final dataset includes remotely sensed and manually interpreted polygons, which utilize different methodologies. Mapped polygons are expected to change over time due to the constantly changing landscape of the mapped area. At a mapping scale of 1:10,000, inclusions of non-wetland landscapes may be within wetland polygons and vice versa due to the inherent landscape heterogeneity. Further description of data limitations are found in the accompanying reports.

Lineage: CryoGeographic Consulting, in association with Palmer Environmental Consulting Group Inc., mapped and classified the wetlands and adjacent upland habitat in the Indian River valley and its major tributaries in 2017. The data was broken up into two datasets; land cover and wetlands. This data is the wetlands data to the companion land cover feature class WETLAND_LANDCOVER_POLY_10K. In 2018 there was the addition of wetlands data from Ducks Unlimited.
